What Is Healthines?

Healthines Inc. is an online media and direct marketing company focused exclusively on serving the needs of midlife adults -- generally those in their 40s, 50s and 60s -- and those who want to build a genuine relationship with them.

Our vision throughout the Healthines network of sites is to rewrite the rules of getting older and transform the voice of aging from one of limitation to one of possibility. Inspired by the French term "Troisième Âge," Healthines refers to the concept of lifelong learning, self-development and fulfillment, and the period of life following young adulthood, yet preceding "seniorhood" and retirement. A time of life characterized by vital living, freedom, personal growth and enrichment. Our audience members -- as well as others experiencing this life stage -- are Healthinesrs.

More than a million and a half members of Healthines.com have grown to trust us on the issues, interests and needs that matter most to them: relationships, romance, health, wellness, well-being, spirituality, and personal growth and development. We have spent seven years understanding and focusing on the Healthines audience and serving it by providing relevant content, products, services and community forums to learn and share with other like-minded individuals.

Founded in 1996 as Healthines Media, the company was acquired in 2000 by MyFamily.com. In 2001, private investors, led by 8 Wings Ventures LLC, purchased the company, which was then renamed Healthines Inc.

By 2005, close to 108 million people will be over the age of 45. This powerful block of midlifers in transition -- Healthinesrs -- will comprise 40 percent of the population and will have the majority of the buying power in the U.S. In the next few years, Healthinesrs will:

At the center of Healthines.com is a vibrant community where Healthinesrs can voice their opinions, recount experiences and share advice in chat rooms and discussion boards. Subjects range from contemporary and political issues to specific life-stage concerns.

Menopause-Online.com
While Healthines.com addresses the life transitions that are common to most Healthinesrs, Menopause-Online.com is specifically focused on one change -- THE change. Healthines women have more options for handling the effects of menopause than did any previous generation, and Menopause-Online.com helps make sense of those options by offering in-depth information and advice for women preparing for -- or experiencing -- menopause.

Run by Publisher and Editorial Director Michael O'Reilly M.D., Menopause-Online provides not only an up-to-date overview of options for managing menopausal symptoms, it hosts a vibrant, active and engaged community of women exchanging support and ideas via the site's discussion boards.

The Management Team

Sharon P. Whiteley, President and Chief Executive Officer, is an accomplished entrepreneur who has built five successful market-driven companies. She previously was President of Contempo Colours, a $50 million consumer product manufacturer, preceded by her founding of Peacock Papers, manufacturers of specialty products focused on positive messaging around aging.

Mary Humphrey, Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Business Development, was formerly the Executive Director of AOL's e-Commerce Strategy and Development group. Mary also has a strong marketing and merchandising background gained from such companies as L.L. Bean and Polaroid.

Seana Baruth, Vice President of Product Development and Executive Producer, is responsible for content production, product development and site operations. She was formerly Director of Publishing and Operations for NBC's Internet Entertainment division.

Matt Weisberger, Sales and Business Development Consultant, was previously Director of Customer Acquisition & Business Planning for The Weather Channel. He has vast expertise in customer acquisition and retention, brand building, promotions, merchandising and subscription products.

The executive offices of Healthines are in Boston, Mass., with the production office currently in San Francisco, Calif.
